2025

April 27- June 8, 2025

TRACES, De Nieuwe Gang, Nederlands

An art project will investigate the traces of war, in the context of the commemoration of 80 Years of Freedom. There are traces in buildings and the landscape, there are monuments not to forget. Most certainly there are also traces that are deeply etched in the souls of different generations. The residents of the border area share a common past. However, where dialects move freely across borders, the views about this shared history are less obviously the same. For example, there is sometimes confusion about whether 80 Years of Freedom will be celebrated in 2025, or whether it’s 80 years of the end of National Socialism that will be commemorated. Some Dutch people are surprised that the victims of National Socialism are commemorated in Germany.

TRACES will research the theme from different perspectives and initiate conversation and discussion about it, between the artists, and also with the audience that will visit the presentation and will participate in the public program.

Readymades at Tension, London

Curated by Alison Aye & Ken Turner

Readymades –  an impromptu exhibition in which artists were given the brief 24 hours before installation. An exploration of ingenuity, enthusiasm and spontaneity.

We invited twelve artists, friends of the gallery, to be part of this exhibition. Each artist invited a ‘guest exhibitor’, someone new to Tension. Everyone turned up with their work, drinks and nibbles. Once it was on the walls (plus ceiling and floor) we discussed the art, the artworld, Duchamp, DeepSeek and Fray Bentos pies.

‘Everyday objects raised to the dignity of a work of art by the artist’s act of choice’
